Traditionally, a blockchain node must download every single block starting with the genesis block before it can participate in network validation. With Bitcoin, this means every single transaction going back more than 10 years! In this video, Stefano (Core Developer) and Andy (Core Developer) explain how we improve the initial sync processes by only requiring nodes to download a compressed "snapshot" of the blockchain instead of every single block. This makes it easier to run a full node with limited hardware options and limited internet access.
